The Bug Butcher
The Bug Butcher is one of those games that’s simple yet a lot of fun. The idea here is exciting, because you have a side scrolling level where all you can do is to stay alive for as much time as possible. Levels are different, but the game does resemble the Super Pang gameplay, so as long as you know that title, you do understand what you are entering and which challenges you can find here!
This game is actually filled with interesting moments, but the true star of the game is definitely the bunch of worms that are falling from above, and you are the only one that can stop them. You have a wide range of interesting weapons that can be used as you see fit, and on top of that the gameplay is very refined to the point that it brings in front some truly interesting moments.
The modern day implementation of Super Pang is glorious here, and thankfully The Bug Butcher does a great job in allowing you to shift weapons as you see fit or change them as per your liking. It’s amazing what the game manages to do here, because aside from allowing you to kill enemies, it also brings in front the ability to strategize and create your own ideas that will help you defeat the alien menace!
Here you need perfect reflexes to be honest, otherwise you are doomed to fail, but the best thing about it is that the gameplay difficulty increases exponentially so you do manage to get good at this which is what matters the most to be honest. Platforming is demanding, but it could be better implemented as some regions are way too hard for the casual players which were obviously targeted for this game. It’s interesting to see how the entire experience changes based on your gameplay, and that does manage to make the gameplay more refined!
Graphically, The Bug Butcher does show a lot of value, and to be honest I am very impressed with the things achieved here. Sure, it could be better in some points, but as a whole the experience is very solid and that on its own is what I love the most to be honest in this game. The game world is stunning, the character design is good and the animations are also fluid, so the title comes as a great, visually appealing package that is well worth exploring.
As a whole, The Bug Butcher is a great game to be honest and it does bring a ton of cool stuff to the table. The lack of a cooperative or online mode does hurt the experience a little bit, but even so, The Bug Butcher does a great job for what it is, so you should totally give it a shot, as you will not be disappointed!
